240 grain 308 subsonic loads12/9/2023 ![]() I'm switching to SL-71 next test to see if the paraffin addition doesn't make the lube fling off better. Also, got some stringy lube boogers on the target without the suppressor, and some black greasy dust around the groups on the paper with the suppressor. I only tested at 15 yards because I was in a hurry, but open sights gave me 1/2" groups of three without my Form 1 suppressor installed and and literally put them all through the same hole WITH the suppressor. Elevation 1600 feet, not that it matters.ħ.1 grains gave me an average muzzle velocity (MagnetoSpeed) of 1030 fps for five rounds.Ħ.5 grains of Red Dot gave me 975 fps average. Range was calm, clear, very dry, and temperature about 70☏. Bullets seated in Forster Benchrest sliding collet die to 2.260", this puts the front band into the throat's freebore with about. 003" neck tension (too much, actually), cases belled just enough to prevent shaving. NO mods to flash hole diameter.ĪCE 235 grain plain-based bullets (similar to NOE 311-230) cast of 2 COWW/1 SOWW/1 soft scrap, air cooled, sized. WCC-08 brass, match-prepped, necks turned, trimmed, inside VLD chamfer. 308 Winchester, Savage 111 LH with Savage factory 20" hog rifle barrel swapped to it. All disclaimers apply, don't be a dummy and if you blow up your stuff or get a baffle strike or have a Secondary Explosive Event (SEE) it's your own asphalt. I hope they develope good expanding pills for other calibers besides 5.56 and 7.62.Info is scarce on this so I made some for the internet. So far I have been able to work up a reasonably accurate sub sonic load for about 10 different guns ranging from 5.56 nato to 30-06. If you don't are you don't want to start reloading shooting subs accurately will certainly be a challenge. The 308 gives you the option to push a bullet much faster and hit much harder than the 300 blkout if the need arises. And I am getting about a 1" group at 100 yards. In the 308 you take up a lot of the case capacity with 12 grains of trail boss and the 200 grain outlaw state expanding bullet. This power has worked very well for me in my subsonic quest. After playing with a few powders and bullets I found a can of trail boss and struck gold. This year I went back to the 308 for my main gun for more knockdown with supersonic bullets.still suppressed. Larger case slower twist means you will have to pick a smaller projectil and it will be harder to fill the case while remaining sub sonic. My most accurate loads have been out of a 300 BLKOUT. You can stabilize a 240 grain or larger bullet with the 1:7 twist. ![]() Smaller case capacity and typically faster twist barrel make it a natural to shoot subsonic. The 208 amax load was louder than the 220's as well.Įdited by Huckleberry75 ( 08/08/16 01:04 PM) I just don't like the amax for a hunting bullet at these speeds due to pen culling through w/o good energy transfer. 08" under the same conditions with the same powder charge. Let us know how that chrono data turns out.Ģ08 amax shot a 3rnd group at. These are through the Ruger Ranch 16" 7tw. Still well within the realm of hearing safe with my SAS Arbiter. For the accuracy they are producing, I will happily trade that for a tiny bit of noise. Not quite as quiet as the Silencerco 220 smk sub load, but plenty quiet. They seem to be right on the edge of subsonic. I do not have chrono data yet, but will update when I do. ![]() Pushed by 9.6gns of LIL Gun, 3 rounds grouped 0.19" at 50yds off of a bipod and rear bag. ![]()
